Giant, eye-catching blooms 5 to 6 inches across regale you two seasons every year from this Raymond J. Evison Clematis! Anna-Louise™ is a spectacularly colorful cultivar, flowering enthusiastically both in early and late season. Pair it with a climbing Rose, let it wend its way up a mailbox or lamppost, and enjoy the lush mid-green foliage and big blooms year after year!
Anna-Louise™ sports big blooms of bright violet with a prominent central bar of reddish-purple on every petal. A small ring of white filaments punctuates the center, making the rich petal colors stand out even more. A very free bloomer, this Clematis puts on a huge show in late spring and early summer, rests during the hottest months, and resumes in late summer and early fall.
This climber reaches 8 to 10 feet tall and about 2 feet wide. It’s a good choice for any setting that needs an injection of color. Bred by master British Clematarian Raymond J. Evison, its pedigree is unimpeachable. You’ll find it vigorous, free-flowering, and long-lived.
Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted groundcover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established, they take a season or two to get going. Anna-Louise™ is a Group II Clematis for pruning purposes, which means that in early spring you should cut back the vine 6 or 8 inches to the nearest pair of strong leaf axil buds. Zones 4-8.
Packet: 20 seeds.
