A member of the Thai Silk series, Appleblossom Chiffon blooms from early summer to fall in extra double flowers in pretty shades of pink, from the palest blush to the darkest rose verging on red, all with a silvery cast and set against a beautiful backdrop of feathery fern-like bluish-green foliage.
A Eschscholzia californica variety, commonly called California poppy, Appleblossom Chiffon is a tender perennial in mild winter climates but is typically grown as an annual, especially in cold winter climates. It is a petite plant with a mounding habit and rapid growth rate. In optimal conditions, the plant will self-seed and multiply. California poppy is shown to best effect when grouped or massed. It’s a great container or garden plant and is an especially good fit for an alpine garden or a rock garden.
Easy to grow and low maintenance, California poppy grows best in a sunny location with well-draining soil but adapts to a wide range of soils, including poor soils. In hot summer climates, the tops may die back in the heat. Deadheading spent blooms promotes additional blooms and prevents unwanted self-seeding.
