All-America Rose Selections (AARS) Winner 1969
What a delight this classic floribunda is, beguiling you with a sweet fruity scent, “blushing” lavender blooms, and a free-flowering nature. Winner of several awards, Angel Face is the rose you will rely on for a big show for many seasons to come.
The flowers are exceptionally large—4 inches—for a floribunda, opening from attractive urn-shaped buds and arising in great clusters, beginning in early summer and continuing into mid-fall. The 30 to 35 petals are slightly waved, like a flared skirt, which adds to their depth. Some boast a faint, deep crimson outline along the tip, as if they had been dipped in wet paint. And all are richly redolent of sweet citrus, a scent so addictive that Angel Face received the ARS John Cook Medal for fragrance.
Introduced in 1968 by Swim & Weeks, Angel Face arose from a cross of (Circus x Lavender Pinocchio) x Sterling Silver, and you can detect the faint silvery sheen of its parentage in certain lights. The next year, in 1969, it won All-America Rose Selections honors.
Angel Face is an upright, bushy plant with lustrous dark green, leathery foliage and a neat 3-foot-tall and -wide form. It is best in full sun and any well-drained soil. A wonderful choice for garden or vase.
