Earlier than most other Cubanelles, Aruba is a delicious and very dependable choice. The long, slender, blunt-tipped lobed peppers begin lime-green, then pass through all shades of orange and red before fully maturing to a rich mahogany brown. The flavor matures along with the colors, delivering a meaty, rich bite every time.
These fruit reach 7 to 10 inches long, with plenty of sweet, fruity, mildly spicy flavor packed into every bite. Use them in salads and stir fries, on sandwiches and as part of side dishes. The flavor is complex and satisfying, neither too hot nor too sweet for most palates.
And Aruba is easy to grow. Even in stressful conditions such as extreme heat, humidity, rain, or drought, it grows reliably, refusing to melt out or stop bearing when the environment is less than ideal. Not only is it early, it’s very dependable. Trust this one to fill your basket every time!
Start seeds indoors or, in climate with short growing seasons, outdoors at least one week after last frost. If starting indoors, allow 7 to 10 weeks for the seeds to mature into seedlings large enough to transplant safely. Fertilize when the blooms appear, and water well.
