Petunia Romantica Star is a member of the Romantica series. Romantica petunias are all sterile male petunias. Flowering earlier than most, these unique petunias provide continuous blooms from late spring through late fall, typically to first frost. Their excellent branching with short internodes guarantees plentiful flowers throughout the season.
Romantica Star, a multiflora star-patterned petunia, sets small 1- to 2-inch flowers in a burgundy-red hue with a cream-colored star. Variations occur on the same plant with subtle color changes as the temperatures fluctuate and flowers age.
Star petunias have a compact, mounded habit that fits perfectly in patio pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets. Petunias are often used as edging or ground cover in flower gardens, and in vegetable gardens, they repel pests, such as asparagus beetles, leafhoppers, tomato worms, and a range of aphids, as well as many others.
Petunias grow easily in sunny to lightly shady spots with average, medium moist, freely draining soil. With improved frost, heat, and weather tolerance, Romantica petunias thrive in temperatures between 41 to 104°F. They also stand up to light rain and recover from heavy rain amazingly well. To create a bushier plant with a heavier bloom, pinch off the tops of established plants; and to encourage and prolong flowering, remove faded flowers regularly.
