Fleuroselect Approved Novelty 2022
Blueberry Swirl Phlox is a flowering annual that blooms all summer and well into early autumn. A grandiflora type, Blueberry Swirl is a tall plant, growing to a mature height of 15 to 20 inches. Borne in clusters at stem ends, the 1-inch single flowers appear in a mixture of purple-blue shades with some having lighter edges. Their long stems and lovely fragrance make them great cut flowers, which have a very good vase life. But left in the garden, the flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
A Phlox drummondii cultivar, commonly called phlox, annual phlox, or Drummond phlox, Blueberry Swirl is a multi-branched plant with an upright, mounded habit and a rapid growth rate. It’s an excellent landscape, bed, and border plant that looks its best when grouped or massed, and is especially beautiful when planted in large, sweeping drifts. But Blueberry Swirl phlox is also perfect planted in a pretty patio pot.
Easy to grow, Blueberry Swirl phlox grows best in a sunny spot with evenly moist, freely draining soil. Annual phlox is native to central and eastern Texas, so it tolerates heat and some dryness. Removing faded blooms promotes heavier blooming and controls unwanted self-seeding.
