The perfect ornamental edible for garden or patio container, Sweetie Pie Hybrid is irrepressibly cute and simply delicious! These mini bells are only a few inches high and wide, yet their thick walls are packed with juicy, crunchy, peppery-sugary goodness, and you will love them all season long!

Sweetie Pie is just about 2 feet high and up to 3 feet wide, but it sets up to 30 delectable peppers on its branches. Dangling like oversized Christmas tree ornaments, the peppers begin green (and may be picked green when they reach full size) and then turn yellow, gold, orange, and finally bright red as they ripen.

These are not the slender mini peppers you may have seen in supermarkets — they are fat, flavorful, fully formed bells, with all the staying power and strong sweet flavor of their full-sized cousins. You will love them fresh off the plant, as well as sliced, sauteed, and stuffed!

Sweetie Pie (and its cousin, Chili Pie) won a 2017 All-America Selection for its compact, made-for-pots size as well as its terrific tolerance of heat and humidity. This is a pepper you can grow on the blazing deck in July without worrying about the flowers not setting or the fruit frying in the heat. It stands up to moist conditions, too — if you live where summer days end in a brief but intense thunderstorm every afternoon, no fears! Sweetie Pie smiles right through it!

Each pepper weighs about 3 ounces at maturity, with that plump bell shape we all love. The fruit probably averages about 3 inches across at the shoulders, and perhaps 2½ from shoulder to base. Just the right size for a perfect bite!

Start seeds indoors or, in climate with short growing seasons, outdoors at least one week after last frost. If starting indoors, allow 7 to 10 weeks for the seeds to mature into seedlings large enough to transplant safely. Set seedlings (or thin direct-sown seedlings) 3 feet apart in full sun. If planting many seedlings, space rows about 3 feet apart. If planting in containers, choose one at least 12 inches in diameter for better root growth. Fertilize when the blooms appear, and water well. Fruit is most colorful and nutritious if allowed to ripen on the plant (instead of being picked when green). Pkt is 20 seeds.
