In the summer of 2010, hundreds of Park Seed customers planted this experimental mix in their gardens to see how it looked and grew. Approximately equal parts Zinnia Profusion white, yellow, and fire (a deep orange/red combo), this landscaping annual is intended for large, colorful plantings, so we thought we’d test it in the best possible setting: our customers’ gardens! The results were resounding, and now we’re once again offering it for use in the sunny bed, container, or meadow garden.

Now, if you’ve never grown Zinnia Profusion before, you are in for a big, delightful surprise. The winner of multiple AAS and Fleuroselect awards for quality, this bedding Zinnia is just 12 to 15 inches high and wide, but it takes off like crazy from seed and covers itself in big, beautiful blooms all summer. It’s renowned for its resistance to heat, drought, and mildew, which makes it worth its weight in gold in humid and rainy climates. Now, all Zinnias are pretty tolerant of heat, but Profusion goes above and beyond. Of course, it also attracts butterflies, puts up with stressful conditions, and flowers its head off — it’s a truly carefree choice for edging, bedding, and containers.

Profusion was designed for large plantings, both covering ground and filling in bare spots beautifully. But it also thrives in flowerpots and windowboxes, and can be “crowded” in among other plants, unlike most Zinnias.
