70 days from transplants. Amy has beguiled All-America Selection judges across the country (including ours right here in the trial gardens!) with its sweetly fragrant, juicy, absolutely succulent fruit. An easy-to-grow vining melon that tolerates stressful conditions from drought to poor soil, it needs just 6 feet of garden space (or a sturdy trellis!) to keep you in yummy fruit for weeks!
Each melon of this unusual “canary” type weighs about 2 to 3 pounds, with a roundish shape, smooth golden rind, and super-fragrant white flesh. The seed cavity is quite small, giving you a few extra bites in every fruit. And the flavor is definitely the best part — succulent, juicy, and rich, it is distinctive from other types of melons and uniquely delicious!
Amy is a fine choice for new and experienced gardeners alike. It doesn’t need a lot of space in the garden, usually spreading 4 to 5 feet wide or high (if trained up a fence or trellis). Super for limited-space gardens, it tolerates a good deal of stress without losing a single fruit!
Start the seeds indoors or direct-sow when the soil warms in spring. Sprouts begun inside will reach transplant size in about 5 to 7 weeks, and should be set out about 6 feet apart in the garden. Pkt is 15 seeds.
