Brazilian Bachelor’s Button is a sun-loving plant, compact and very easy to grow, that sets masses of thistle-shaped flowers for the annual bed and your best vases. Cut them for fresh arrangements or let them dry magnificently into Evelastings!
Hardy only in the sultry climes of zones 10 and 11, ‘Button Beauty’ can be grown as an annual everywhere else. It is the first selected variety of Centratherum intermedium we have ever seen, so if you’ve been growing the species, you’ll love this improved type! And if, like most of us, you’ve never even heard of Brazilian Bachelor’s Button before, give this unusual little guy a try!
Reaching about 24 inches high and wide, this plant is a good choice to tuck between larger flowered annuals, especially those not lucky enough to sport a fragrance. The scented leaves of ‘Button Beauty’ will share their bounty with the whole garden, and the distinctive blooms stand out well against daisy- and pompon-shaped flowers. Try a plant or two among your Zinnias, for example — the colors and forms combine nicely!
Very fast growing, this seed germinates within 21 days at 68 to 75 degrees F. If you’re using your Bio Dome, just drop the seeds into the pre-drilled holes. Wait until the soil is thoroughly warm in spring before transplanting. It’s as simple as that! Packet is 50 seeds.
