Cauliflower has a new gold standard, and its name is Freedom! This hybrid replaces the old favorite Fremont with gourmet flavor, a tighter harvest window (so you can bring in the crop at once or plan season-long successive harvests accurately), and ultra-dependable yields. We highly recommend it to gardeners in all climates.
Freedom Hybrid is a main-season variety with snowy white heads, very tight curds, and self-wrapping outer leaves. It can be grown as baby cauliflower or allowed to mature; it is suitable for both summer and fall crops, and performs well even in the Northeast, where some varieties struggle. In other words, it is an all-around adaptable, superior performer.
Very heat-tolerant, Freedom sets somewhat bumpy, absolutely delicious heads, dense and heavy. Seeds sown at the same time generally harvest within just a few days of one another, taking the guesswork out of cropping. And even in extreme weather, the heads have less “fuzz” than others. You will love how easy this main-season cauliflower is!
Cauliflower is a cool-season crop suitable for spring and fall cultivation. If you live in a warm climate, fall crops will probably be more successful, since the cooling temperatures enhance the flavor of the fruit. Farther north, spring and fall are equally successful.
For spring crops, sow seeds indoors 5 to 7 weeks before setting out as soon as the soil is workable. For fall, begin seeds in late summer. Set the seedlings 18 inches apart in the garden, or 12 inches apart if growing baby cauliflower. Packet is 25 seeds.
