Use as landscape boarder, in rock gardens or plant containers, the Chasmanthium latifolium is a lush, drought tolerant, upright growing dwarf grass known for its handsome green bamboo-like foliage that does not flop over.
Perfect for damp climates, this plant is at its most vigorous when grown in lush and rich environments. The seed heads are quite decorative and can be used in flower arrangements. Sow in fall or spring when night temps are reliably 50 F. Unlike other grasses, this one prefers shade. It tolerates water well, and the more, the more sun tolerant it will be, but direct sunlight will still cause yellowing of leaves. Should come up in 2 to 3 weeks. Prune in mid to late fall by cutting the dead stalks back to the rosette nearest the ground. Grow rapidly & are fairly tall. If too tall to suit the grower, can be cut back to half their height in May or June, but don’t wait until the hottest part of summer for this. They’re easily transplanted.
