All-America Selections Regional Winner 2023 (Southeast, Northwest)
Joining the Artisanâ„¢ Collection in 2023, the first F1 hybrid echinacea series on the market, Yellow Ombre is an herbaceous perennial that blooms heavily and uniformly from late spring/early summer to frost. The plant sets large, 3- to 4-inch flowers in graduated colors of golden yellow. The flowers maintain their vivid, saturated color all season. They sustain butterflies and bees, and the dried end-of-season seed heads that follow provide food for songbirds and add garden interest as well. The flowers are long lasting and make excellent cuts for floral displays.
A hybrid of two Echinacea purpurea, commonly called coneflower, Yellow Ombre is slightly taller than the rest of the Artisan Collection, with larger and lighter mid-green leaves. Like all the varieties in the collection, Yellow Ombre has excellent branching, which means more flowers and longer duration of blooms. Its uniform, upright habit makes excellent low edging but it’s also a perfect plant for beds, borders, and containers.
Cold hardy and low maintenance, coneflowers grow best in locations with full sun and well-draining soil. The plants are tolerant of cold, frost, heat, drought, rain, and wind. Yellow Ombre has a high resistance against botrytis, rusts, and downy and powdery mildew and, under normal weather conditions, are generally resistant to most fugue diseases. Deadheading is not required but will promote even more blooms. No staking is required.
