The improved petunia varieties in the E3 Easy Wave® Formula Mixture are tender perennials (Zones 10-11), often grown as annuals, offering spring through summer interest. Earlier blooming than typical Easy Wave petunias, these E3 “Extra Easy Wave” practically perfect petunias set masses of showy, fragrant blossoms non-stop over a longer season. The blue, coral, pink, red, and white flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden.
Full and lush, E3 Easy Wave® Formula Mixture petunias have an efficient, tight, domed shape; a controlled, spreading habit; and manageable vigor. The plant gracefully cascades from containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets but also makes great edging or ground cover in beds and borders. Planted alongside perennials and vegetables, petunias repel asparagus beetles, leafhoppers, a range of aphids, tomato worms, and many other pests.
Extremely easy to grow, petunias prefer full sun to light shade and average, medium moist, well-draining soil. They tolerate poor soils, heat, and cold and are deer resistant and virtually disease and pest free. Although petunias are low maintenance, pinching off the tops of established plants results in a bushier habit and a heavier bloom, and deadheading regularly encourages and prolongs flowering. Cutting back plants that have declined in summer heat promotes a later bloom as temperatures cool.
Direct sow petunia seed after the last frost and as soon as the soil is warm in spring or start seeds indoors 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost and transplant after all threat of frost has passed.
