The Kitchen Minisâ„¢ Tabletop Vegetable Collection is setting new trends and winning awards. During the Cultivate’21 tradeshow in Columbus, Ohio, a panel of judges recognized the line as innovative and unique, awarding it a Retailer’s Choice Award; and Greenhouse Grower magazine praised the program as being an outstanding contribution to the industry, honoring it with a Medal of Excellence Award in the Best Program category.
Developed specifically for containers and small spaces, Kitchen Minisâ„¢ Fresh Bites Orange Edible Potted Pepper is a fruit vegetable. As ornamental as it is productive, the plant sets small, star-shaped “perfect” flowers followed by 1- to 2-inch vibrant orange fruits. These snack peppers are thick walled and have a deliciously sweet flavor. Eat them raw, right off the plant, chopped up in a salad, or grilled. Peppers are a good source of vitamin C.
An herbaceous, frost-tender, short-lived evergreen perennial, typically grown as an annual, Kitchen Minisâ„¢ Fresh Bites Orange Edible Potted Pepper is a member of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). The plant grows rapidly, forming a compact, upright plant with smooth-margined dark green leaves. It produces heavy yields all season. If grown indoors, plant in a 3- to 8-inch pot with good drainage and place on a sunny windowsill or counter.
Fresh Bites Orange Edible Potted Pepper is easy to grow from seed, growing best in locations with full sun and fertile, organically rich, moist, well-draining loam, but it is adaptable to a wide range of soils. The plant is low maintenance but pinching back young plants encourages bushiness. Fresh Bites Orange Edible Potted Pepper, like all capsicums, is deer resistant and heat and drought tolerant.
A warm-season vegetable, sensitive to cold temperatures and frost, pepper seeds can be direct sown into warm spring soil after all threat of frost has passed. For an earlier harvest, seeds can be started indoors 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting. Flowers begin to set fruit with night temperatures between 55° and 75°F. Protect plants with row covers if temperatures are expected to dip below 50°F. Mulching helps to moderate soil temperature as well as to maintain soil moisture and control weeds.
If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
