This British scallion is a pleasure to grow and a treat to eat! Ready in less than 2 months, it combines the best traits of both bunching and bulbing onions. The result is delicious eating for you!
Guardsman offers large, emerald green tops, mildly flavored, and a vigorous root system that keeps it growing tall and strong. Reaching 22 inches high, it has a generous amount of top growth and a large, smooth, rounded white bulb. It holds well after harvest, and offers a flavor that is never pungent or overpowering.
Start seed indoors in late winter to early spring for spring or summer harvest, or in mid- to late summer for fall or next-sping harvest. Guardsman is very winter-hardy.
Sow seeds ½-inch apart in the garden, setting them ½-inch deep, and then thin to 1 inch apart to harvest a big bunch of green tops from every plant. If transplanting from an indoor sowing, space seedlings 1 to 2 inches apart in the garden. Packet is 200 seeds.
