Ideal for the evening garden and irresistible paired with a colorful climbing rose, crisp white Henryi is one of the all-time classic Clematis varieties. Compact yet very free-flowering, it offers extra-large, pure white blooms all summer long.
Held wide open and very long-lasting, these blooms reach 6 to 7 inches wide. Their dark, frilly center just makes the white petals pop more effectively! Bright green foliage banks the flowers, offering a gorgeous show that appears most heavily early in the season, but can continue right through September. And the new spring foliage is tinged with bronze!
This Clematis is compact enough for containers as well as the sunny border. It grows and blooms dependably for decades, delighting garden visitors with its moonlight tones, which intensify in late afternoon and early evening, when brighter colors fade.
Like all Clematis, Henryi is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch year-round. Henryi is in Pruning Group II, so it will need an early spring pruning down to about 6 inches from the ground. This will improve the branching, vigor, and flowering ability of this spectacular climber! Zones 3-9.
