You will love the big yields and great uniformity of this jazzy Radicchio! The 4-inch heads are very heavy, filled with tightly-packed leaves of deep burgundy-maroon against a pure white midrib. The flavor is equally strong — crisp and peppery, it is juicy-sweet and never chewy!
Indigo Hybrid is prized for flavor, yields, and disease resistance. This radicchio has a bite that is both spicy and sweet, and extends right down to the core — no bland white inner leaves here! The tightly curled, rich red-purple tones go straight through, bringing you extra goodness in every leaf!
The yields are huge on this plant, thanks to superior disease resistance. Indigo stands up to tip burn, bottom rot, and bolting, so the season lasts a little longer and the plants are much healthier. The outer green wrapper leaves offer great protection from the sun, and the fall crop is even bigger, in terms of head size, than the spring! You can’t go wrong with Indigo!
This radicchio is ornamentally beautiful, too. Plant it among your cool-season flowers for a charming look — it thrives in light frosts all the way to the mid-20’s! Start seeds indoors for spring harvest. Germination takes 2 to 3 weeks, and the seedlings are not fussy about being transplanted; space them about 6 to 8 inches apart in the garden. Grow this radicchio as you would any lettuce, in rich soil with plenty of water all season. Harvest when the central head is fully formed. Big yields! Pkt is 25 seeds.
