Pests will keep their distance from anything planted near this super-hot, charming little container pepper! Bred in England and winner of top honors there, it is a terrific addition to patio, deck, and garden bed, forming a neat little cushion of bright green foliage and masses of upturned gumdrop-shaped peppers that turn 3 colors over their long ripening time!

Just a foot high and about 16 inches wide, Loco Hybrid is a dense, bushy, well-branched plant with a huge amount of bright fruit. The peppers really do resemble gumdrops, just 2 inches long and turning from green to dark violet before finally burning bright red. They are at their hottest when red — about 24,000 Scovilles of heat, or the equivalent of a cayenne pepper!

But you may not be able to bring yourself to pick too many of the fruits, because they just look so bright and pretty on this ornamental plant. The foliage is bright green, the compact growth makes everything fuller and more dense, and altogether, this is a charming plant to pop into an 8-inch pot or set among flowering annuals in a combo tub.

Start seeds indoors about 7 to 10 weeks before the last anticipated spring frost date. Do not transplant until the spring soil has warmed and the seedlings have at least 2 sets of true leaves.
