The Maché™ ranunculus varieties in the Bicolor Mix flower from early to mid spring. Borne on long 10- to 12-inch stems above a mound of lush, feathery, parsley-like foliage, the romantic, fully double blooms-with layers and layers of ruffled, papery white petals with pink or purple tips-look like a cross of a peony and a tea rose. They make elegant, long-lasting cut flowers for spring bouquets and mixed floral arrangements.
The Ranunculus asiaticus varieties, commonly called Persian buttercup, in the Maché Bicolor Mix are a seed-grown strain, best grown as annuals. The plants have a uniform upright habit of that works well in beds, borders, and especially, containers. Long favored by florists, ranunculus are a must-have in a cutting garden.
Maché Bicolor Mix varieties perform best in climates with long, cool springs and relatively mild winters. They prefer sunny locations that receive at least 6 hours of full sun, but they do tolerate some shade. The soil should be sandy, slightly acidic, and moist; but excellent drainage is essential. Warm, wet conditions and heavy, unamended soils are not well tolerated. Deadheading faded flowers keeps ranunculus blooming and mulching around the base of plants keeps the soil cool and moist.
