An F1 hybrid, DoubleShot™ Orange Bicolor is a short-lived tender perennial (Zones 7-10), usually grown as a half-hardy annual, offering summer interest. Flowering for months, typically from spring to fall, in optimum conditions, the long-blooming plant sets ruffled and romantic, 1- to 2-inch, open-faced double blooms. The color is a truly stunning combination of orange and white, with subtle gradient throughout, and a dusty finish at the end. Borne on tall, sturdy stems, bred to stand up to strong winds, the flower spikes attract butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden and also make excellent cut flowers that are long lasting in a vase.
An Antirrhinum majus, commonly called snapdragon, DoubleShot Orange Bicolor has an upright, bushy habit of lance-shaped, glossy dark green leaves. Freely branching from the main stem, the plant produces successive flower stems throughout the growing season. Snapdragons are charming, old garden favorites, shown to best effect when grouped or massed in beds, borders, and patio pots.
Easy to grow from seed, snapdragons grow and flower best in sunny locations with moist, organically rich, well-drained soils. Although snapdragons are low maintenance plants, pinching off stem tips of young plants promotes bushiness, and deadheading frequently throughout summer keeps snapdragons blooming. Snapdragons are typically deer resistant. DoubleShot Orange Bicolor is also frost and light freeze tolerant.
Start snapdragon seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost date, gradually acclimatize outdoors over 7 to 10 days, and transplant seedlings in the garden after all risk of frost has passed.
